Chelsea bid of £10m and Juan Mata rejected for prime Arsenal target

Manchester United have turned down an offer from Chelsea of £10 million plus either Juan Mata or David Luiz for Wayne Rooney.

Following comments from the Manchester United manager, David Moyes that the Old Trafford could would need Rooney should there be an injury to star striker, Robin Van Persie, the former Evertonian is thought to be outraged and confused.

Rooney, who has been one of Manchester United’s best players for over a decade, has dropped down the pecking orders since the arrival of Van Persie and is reportedly unhappy at playing second fiddle to the former Arsenal man.

Meanwhile, Arsenal & Chelsea are believed to be keeping tabs on the unsettled English forward and according to James Ducker of The Times, Chelsea have lodged a bid of  £10m plus Juan Mata/David Luiz for Wayne Rooney.

Spain international Mata was named Chelsea’s Player of the Year last season after claiming 28 assists and 20 goals in all competitions for the Blues. As David Luiz, ended the season with a series of commanding performances both at centre-back and in midfield.

Mourinho’s admiration for Rooney is no secret as the Portuguese said a few days ago: “If Wayne is a second choice for Man United, then the national team will be affected,” said Mourinho, who also admitted last week that Rooney was “a player I like.”

While Manchester United have rejected the player plus cash deal from Chelsea, it is all but certain that the Wayne Rooney saga is far from over.
