Transfer Talk: Guardiola determined to beat Barcelona to the signing of £35m Chelsea star
Following speculations that Jose Mourinho does not see David Luiz as an integral part of his plans, European heavyweights, Bayern Munich and Barcelona have been fighting toe-to-toe to land the Brazilian star.
Although Barcelona are in need of a central defender much more than their former manager’s Bayern Munich, Guardiola seems determined to pip his beloved Barcelona to the signing of Luiz, who he believes to be the final piece of the jigsaw.
Pep Guardiola has been a long-term admirer of the Brazil defender since his Barcelona days. The defender has also attracted severe interest from the likes of Paris Saint-Germain. Guardiola stated in his first Bayern Press conference that the club is not in need of a major overhaul, however he believes the addition of Luiz could set another course for world domination.
Luiz, who has three years left on the contract signed when he arrived from Benfica in January 2011 is likely to cost upwards of £30m.
