Transfer Talk LATEST: Man City striker Cavani plans Madrid switch
City have marked out Napoli frontman Edinson Cavani as a top target this summer as they aim to win back the Premier League title from their cross-town rivals.
The striker’s mother revealed on Thursday that City chiefs were in talks with the 26-year-old over a move to the Etihad Stadium, while Chelsea have also been monitoring developments.
Real Madrid, however, has been sniffing around for the player, and the club are looking to hijack any potential bids from the English giants.
“Cavani’s intention is to play for Madrid,” Luis Cavani, his father told Futboleros.
“He is excited about it and is very willing to see it through. He has told the family in private that he wants to join Real Madrid but if he declares it publicly it will annoy Napoli.”
Cavani has scored 29 Serie A goals last season, and his services would command a fee north of £50million.
“There has been contact with Real Madrid’s lawyers and now we are waiting for the two clubs to meet,” Luis Cavani added.
“I hope it happens and that talks take place as soon as possible. Who wouldn’t want to play for Real Madrid?
