Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has announced he will retire from football at the end of the season. The 35-year-old arrived at Anfield as a trainee in 1994. He has made 723 appearances since making his Reds debut in January 1997, playing alongside the likes of Steven Gerrard, Xabi Alonso and Javier Mascherano whilst with Liverpool. The Liverpool legend told liverpoolfc.com “This will be my last season at Liverpool and my last as a professional footballer. I’m making this announcement now because I don’t want the manager or the club to be answering questions on my future when I’ve already decided what I am going to do.” Until then, the ex-England international is to remain focused on playing for Liverpool and ending his career on a high.

Lampard could stay with Chelsea

Despite it appearing Chelsea weren’t set to offer terms to Frank Lampard, it appears a series of impressive performances and the fans approving of a contract extension has proved effective in Chelsea’s decision. The day after Lampard scored a momentous goal to lead to England to a 2-1 victory over Brazil, Talks over a new deal have been positive. The ex-West ham midfielder told Sky Sports “Wherever I go, whatever happens in my career – and I don’t honestly know – if I can play at a great level of football and play at my best I will just see what happens.”

Barcelona confirm Lionel Messi contract extension

Barcelona’s Lionel Messi has signed his two-year contract extension which ties him to the Nou Camp until June 2018. The Argentinean  came up through the youth ranks at Barca before making his competitive debut against Espanyol in 2004 at the age of 17. The contract extension follows the extension of Carlos Puyol and Xavi Hernandez contracts in January. Team mate Jordi Alba said “I can’t imagine what Messi will be like in 2018, but it’s great news for Barca fans that he’s staying. He is the best player in the world and as long as nothing happens, he’ll be the best ever. We’ll try to make him feel as comfortable here as we can.”

Barcelona’s number 10 set to stay.

Hamburg could sell Heung-min Son

Hamburg forward Heung-min Son could leave Hamburg – at the right price. The South Korea international is said to be interesting a number of clubs in the Premier League, including Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur. Hamburg are known to want £10 million for their classy frontman. Manager Arnesen told Hamburger Morgenpost: “Of course we have an acceptance limit. But Sonny is very young and great talent. I am sure we can find a solution to keep hold of him for longer than the end of his current deal (which expires in June 2014).”

Joey Barton claims- “Neymar is overrated”

Barton has once again caused a stir through his twitter account, posting “This Neymar fella is massively overrated.” The 30-year old later posted “I wouldn’t pay the £40-50 million there asking for Neymar, Not a chance.” Many took offence to these tweets, sending abuse to the Marseille loan player. Neymar even said in an interview he doesn’t know who Barton is.
